Current Initiatives

College Council has the power to pass legislation to drive student-oriented policy.

Most USG initiatives begin as resolutions, which are considered, debated, and voted on by College Council. Resolutions generally originate from the relevant USG Committee and initiate a new project, guide an ongoing initiative, or finalize a policy. They usually call for policy changes by relevant stakeholders — like the administration. Other bills may direct USG members to take certain actions, such as funding an initiative.

Below are just a few of our many ongoing projects and initiatives. From working with thousands of student organizers nationwide to lobby Congress and the Department of Education to double the Pell Grant, to organizing a grassroots effort for Greek Life recognition at UChicago, now is an exciting time to join USG and serve the campus community.
